The Pink Panther Strikes Again
A Comedy by William Gleason
Based on the film by Blake Edwards and Frank Waldman
Crowds were in for a delight and lots of laughs Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9th as the Manitou Sr. Xplor Drama troupe presented this hilarious drama. The comic essence of the marvelous film with all its verbal and visual humor has been captured here in this dramatization. The world's most unusual criminologist, Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau - a role originally created by Peter Sellers - fights for his life and for the future of all mankind in the most bizarre and dangerous caper of his brilliantly successful and utterly clumsy career. Paul Dreyfus, once his long-suffering boss, now turned into a raving lunatic, holds the world at bay with the ultimate weapon, the Doomsday Machine. Dreyfus is out to get Clouseau, the man whose undeserved success has driven him crazy, and he threatens to vaporize continents if the nations of the world don't deliver Clouseau to him - alive or, if at all possible, dead! Blissfully unaware that the army of deadly assassins is gunning for him, or that the beautiful girl who seeks him out is a Russian agent, Clouseau incredibly stumbles and slips by every attack. However, the world is running out of time because the increasingly frustrated Dreyfus, doodling with the Doomsday Machine, is running out of patience. At the critical moment, it suddenly appears that Clouseau is finally running out of luck. Then he fires from the hip and hits our funny bone!

BookMark
All of us love stories. Stories that put us in them. The Gospel itself is God's true story, offering each of us the opportunity to be forever in it.
BookMark tells of Mark and his Gospel. Under raised eyebrows and through wide-opened eyes, we see the happenings of then as though they were now. We see Mark, an immediate journalist, compiling the facts of a story. A story rich with truth, as inviting to us today as it was to its first-century readers.
With a small cast playing multiple characters, BookMark is the perfect drama to celebrate the Easter season.

Ben Hur
Lew Wallace's epic classic comes to life onto the stage with this new adaptation for the stage.
The innocent Judah Ben Hur suddenly finds himself exiled with his mother and sister imprisoned for life after an accident almost takes the life of the new Gratus, assigned governor of Jerusalem and Palestine. But Ben Hur's life doesn't end there, after a series of events, Judah proves his character again and again, overcoming insurmountable odds. In his travels, his aim for revenge mounts, and soon he is brought face to face with the potential "New King" of the Jews. But will this new king actually take his kingdom and destroy the Roman Rule. Judah prepares his rule by training legions of men, but when this Messiah is taken and crucified on a cross, Judah must come to terms with who the Christ really is and what His kingdom actually encompasses.
This production is artistically produced with only a small cast of characters playing multiple roles and creating unique scenes on a bare stage with only a select number of props and sets. A classic production for the family, dramatically commemorating the Christ through the eyes of those who had no clue of what Jesus would and could do.

Beauty and the Beast
Manitou Opera House
325 Main St., Manitou, MB
Candlewick Players transformed the Manitou Opera House with their recent production of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast"
Audiences were brought into the enchanted world of Broadway's modern classic, based on the Academy-Award winning animated feature, the stage version of Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. Living a provincial life in a lovely French town, Belle and her father Maurice are about to have their lives changed when Maurice becomes lost in the woods on the way to the fair. Seeking shelter in an old castle, Maurice finds the master of the castle a horrible beast who takes him captive. Maruice's daughter, Belle, must then give up her freedom to save his life. Belle's taming of the unfortunate Beast and his ultimate transformation back into a handsome prince enthralled not only Broadway audiences for over 13 years, but also the Manitou audiences. With amazing costumes, moving sets, special FX, and tremendous acting, the performances were a hit.
Many thanks go to the patrons who supported us with their attendance. The performers for all their hard work and commitment, the musicians for their time and patience, and the directors including Jennifer Nichol as Choral Director, Sarah Martens as Vocal Coach, Marilee Schroeder as Choreographer, Ashley Toevs as Actor’s Coach, Ruth Barker as Costume Designer, Jason Dyck as Orchestral Director, and Richard J. Klassen as Artistic Director/Producer.
Performances were held July 28-31. We encourage web-visitors and patrons to check the site in months to come for Candlewick's fall lineup and for news on plans for next summer.

Tales from the Toyshop
An adaptation of the classic ballet Coppelia
It is the Harvest Festival and the village is celebrating the arrival of the new Church Bell. Among the celebrants are the young Swanhilde and Franz, set to be wed married the very next day. But is their romance in trouble when Franz is taken with a new girl seen in the window of Dr. Coppelius' house? Dr. Coppelius is a strange fellow, often ridiculed by the village youngsters. After finding the key to Dr. Coppelius' house in the street, Swanhilde and her friends are determined to find out who this new girl is only to discover an amazing secret... Dr. Coppelius' amazing toyshop. As they explore the shop, they bring the various mechanical toys to life and soon discover that the mysterious girl is none other than a doll created by Dr. Coppelius.
Caught in the shop by the return of Dr. Coppelius, the girls scatter and all manage to flee, except Swanhilde who hides in the doll's closet. In the meantime, Franz also has snuck into the house to warn the girls that Dr. Coppelius is coming... only he is too late and is caught by the doctor, who entices Franz to examine his toys and to take a drink of a special potion which puts him to sleep. Upon falling asleep, the doctor tries to steal Franz's energy to give to his doll to bring her to life... and is surprised to see the doll actually move, not realizing that Swanhilde has taken her place.
Seeing her fiance in trouble, Swanhilde tries frantically to wake him and yet distract the doctor. Finally, the doctor realizes the deception and finds his doll lifeless as Swanhilde and Franz escape just in time for the wedding. Will all end well for the couple? What of the poor doctor whose doll was to replace his lost daughter?
Join the actors and dancers as they present this seasonal tale for the entire family.
