The Importance of Being Earnest

Importance Poster

Considered one of the most famous of comedies of all time, this masterpiece is a witty and bouyant comedy of manners. Delighting millions in countless productions ever since its first performance in London on February 14, 1895, "The Importance of Being Earnest has been celebrated not only for its light-hearted ingenuity of its plot, but for its inspired dialogue.

The play begins in Algernon Moncrieff's London flat where Jack Worthing proposes to the love of his life, but soon the situation becomes dire as his love's mother draws the engagement to naught due to Jack's somewhat unknown past. Will that kill their love? But this comic masterpiece doesn't end there... soon Algernon discovers his friend's country home only to find Jack's beautiful ward. Soon the issue of one's name is brought to light with misconceptions as to just who is "Earnest" and who isn't.

Candlewick Players presented this classic comedy filled with romance, misunderstanding, and comedy galore as their 2012 Valentine's Theatre Event.

Guys and Dolls

A Musical Fable of Broadway

Music and Lyrics by: FRANK LOESSER

Book by: JO SWERLING and ABE BURROWS

Guys and Dolls Poster

This oddball romantic comedy is set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City. Considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy, 'Guys and Dolls' soars with the spirit of Broadway as it highlights a cast of vivid characters: Sarah Brown (the upright but uptight "mission doll," out to reform the evildoers); Sky Masterson (the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet but ends up falling in love); Adelaide (the chronically ill nightclub performer whose condition is brought on by the fact she's been engaged to the same man for 14 years); and Nathan Detroit (Adelaide's devoted fiancé (desperate as always to find a spot for his infamous floating crap game).

It all works out in the end, thanks to the machinations of Abe Burrows' and Jo Swerling's hilarious, fast-paced book with Frank Loesser's bright score, taking us from the heart of Times Square, to Havana, Cuba, and into the sewers of New York City. Funny and romantic, GUYS AND DOLLS is ideal for audiences of any age.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

Adapted from the C.S. Lewis Classic by Joseph Robinette

LWW Poster

"This dramatization of C.S. Lewis' classic faithfully recreated the magic and mystery of Aslan, the Great Lion, His struggle with the White Witch, and the adventures of four children who inadvertently wander from an old wardrobe into never-to-be-forgotten Narnia. The intense action featured chases, duals, and escapes as the Witch is determined to keep Narnia in her control and end the reign of Aslan. "

This spring's dramatization was made complete not only with a host of colorful characters, but also with the inclusion of the Manitou DanceWorks students as they presented their spring recital creating a truly magical and creative telling of this family favourite.
