The Beverly Hillbillies

The Clampetts take the stage!

The lovable Clampett family rodes onto the stage for an evening of hillbilly hilarity this last October with the Manitou Sr. Xplor Drama students.. Starting in the Clampett's mountain cabin, the played followed the hilarity through the discovery of oil, their improbable invasion of hi-falutin' Beverly Hills society and the absurd adventures and ridiculous romances they encountered there. Students from the Manitou Sr. Xplor Drama were excited to present this in their latest annual fall theatre production series to appreciative audiences. Previous fall presentations have included: "The Importance of Being Earnest," "The Long Red Herring," and "Pride and Prejudice".

Tales from the Toyshop

Poster

An adaptation of the classic ballet Coppelia

It is the Harvest Festival and the village is celebrating the arrival of the new Church Bell. Among the celebrants are the young Swanhilde and Franz, set to be wed married the very next day. But is their romance in trouble when Franz is taken with a new girl seen in the window of Dr. Coppelius' house? Dr. Coppelius is a strange fellow, often ridiculed by the village youngsters. After finding the key to Dr. Coppelius' house in the street, Swanhilde and her friends are determined to find out who this new girl is only to discover an amazing secret... Dr. Coppelius' amazing toyshop. As they explore the shop, they bring the various mechanical toys to life and soon discover that the mysterious girl is none other than a doll created by Dr. Coppelius.

Caught in the shop by the return of Dr. Coppelius, the girls scatter and all manage to flee, except Swanhilde who hides in the doll's closet. In the meantime, Franz also has snuck into the house to warn the girls that Dr. Coppelius is coming... only he is too late and is caught by the doctor, who entices Franz to examine his toys and to take a drink of a special potion which puts him to sleep. Upon falling asleep, the doctor tries to steal Franz's energy to give to his doll to bring her to life... and is surprised to see the doll actually move, not realizing that Swanhilde has taken her place.

Seeing her fiance in trouble, Swanhilde tries frantically to wake him and yet distract the doctor. Finally, the doctor realizes the deception and finds his doll lifeless as Swanhilde and Franz escape just in time for the wedding. Will all end well for the couple? What of the poor doctor whose doll was to replace his lost daughter?

Join the actors and dancers as they present this seasonal tale for the entire family.
